Can I still improve my golf game? The short answer is yes!
The complete answer is easier than one might think. The first thing, in my opinion is you must stop taking lessons!
I know I probably almost lost all of you on that quick right turn, especially coming from a golf professional of 30+ years, who has made a career of teaching the game.
What I mean by this statement is not to stop learning, just stop with the band aid approach to getting better. Think of each time you take, what I will call a disconnected lesson, especially if it is not from the same instructor; you are putting a band aid on your golf swing, game and body. I can say this with extreme confidence because the facts weigh heavily to support this band aid approach not really helping people improve.
For over 100 years, as people have taken lessons and handicaps have been tracked, the average handicap has not really changed, meaning people and golfers have not really gotten better.
But wait, we have improved in our technology, our understanding of the game, the courses are better, equipment has improved, and I am telling you the average handicap of the golf community is the one thing that has stayed the same? The answer again is yes!
As I say, you must stop taking disconnected golf lessons and survival tips that could hurt your game further. I want you for a moment, since you’ve been here on earth and experienced a few things in life, to think of how effective (or not) diets are to help people lose weight. The statistics weigh (no pun intended) heavily on the side of failure! Why? Because they are designed and sold to give one this massive loss in a short period of time, not allowing any real time to incorporate the changes needed to sustain.
Taking disconnected golf lessons are exactly the same. Find a program that is designed to work with you as a coach, to work with you long term, and make long term, lasting changes that when you go to the golf course, works much more often than it doesn’t. Just like the person who is on a healthy lifestyle plan, versus one on a diet, can easily say no thank you to a luscious dessert, and the dieter cannot!
Stick around and stay connected to improve your game, and enjoyment and I promise you that when the quick tip is offered as a miracle solution, you will not be tempted to change your healthy golf lifestyle, and you will stay on track, until next time.
