What Happens If I Fail?

August 9, 2011 in Tobacco & Alcohol Issues

Many people who try to quit will relapse or start smoking again, but you should not feel like a failure.  Learn from your relapse, modify your plan to factor in why you relapsed, and start again.

What do I do if I slip for a day?
Again do not get discouraged.  One cigarette is better than an entire pack a day.  It is just important not to let the one slip up turn into a big slip up.  Although one cigarette may seem harmless, it often turns into a pack.  A slip up is just a minor set back.  It does not mean that you have failed.  Learn from you mistake and modify your plan to keep you from slipping up next time.  Share your slip ups with your doctor.  It may be that you need nicotine replacement therapy or a prescription medication to help you control your cravings.

Stick with it.  Do not give up.  Dealing with cigarette cravings may last weeks, months or even years.  Kicking the habit is not easy, but it will be well worth your efforts.
